Black Black Moon

Black Black Moon
About

Hannah Wood is the creator and proprietor of Black Black Moon, which is a unique handmade jewelry company that originated in Providence, RI, in 2010. Wood holds a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design, and has a background in retail merchandising, illustration and theatrical set design. Her diverse background has led to the development of a business which incorporates all of her passions- through the conception, execution, presentation and sales of Black Black Moon products. Black Black Moon has exhibited in over a hundred high-end craft shows, music festivals and Indie-Art markets nationwide. Though Wood has a prestigious degree and an exciting design background, she claims that her biggest asset is her wild imagination and fervent desire to create beauty in the world. Black Black Moon one-of-a-kind designs are created with vintage remnant materials circa 1920-1970. Most of the materials used are harvested from retired commercial jewelry manufacturing mills. Black Black Moon designs are the renewal of these materials which were imbedded within a New England economy of the past. These remnants are deconstructed and reconstructed into more complex, contemporary, and urban designs with a nostalgic nod. Black Black Moon’s signature style is oxidized metal, seen with slight variation in every piece. Wood’s oxidation technique has been called ‘modern alchemy’; the materials are transformed to deep hues and visceral textures by different controlled chemical reactions. Wood also uses found objects sourced from her local surrounds of Western North Carolina, such as bullet casings, deer antlers and raw crystals. The designs she creates from these various materials range from large statement pieces which are “nomadic” in feeling, to sentimental “antebellum” designs, to baroque pieces with extreme detail. Each piece is worthy of artifact status, and yet remain affordable for a key demographic of educated women 18-40 years of age. While examining current apparel and style trends, Wood, as an art history connoisseur, conceives of each piece from an extensive knowledge of design history. The display built to exhibit Black Black Moon is created from salvaged antiques. It has won awards such as “Editor’s Choice” at the Bust Magazine Craft Show in NYC, two years in a row. The display is created from architectural remnants such as doors, columns and bricks, and is decorated by antique hardware, deer antlers, moss, and many other elements which are comprehensive to the theme of the work. The unique merchandising of Wood’s booth allows customers to step into the magical, unimagined world of Black Black Moon.

Complete and total freedom is what we strive for. In our life, in our style, and in our hearts. Blue Bird Apparel is all about blending the edgy with the classic while being comfortable and looking bossy. We are inspired by street style, urban, underground, the freaks, geeks and cheeky chicks. Not the kind of snooty clique kind of fashion but in the rad, the cool, the radical, the awesome, the foxy, the edgy, the NEW kind of fashion. That feeling when you see something super cute and you have to have it kind of fashion. I would sell my car for that dress kind of fashion. We get excited when winter comes so we can have the chance to wear our sweet new jackets and can’t wait till summer so we can wear our platform wedges again. We express our mood through our gear on the daily. We are the style makers and risk takers. We have the balls to never grow up, to be ourselves and to generally not give a F****.  But besides all that, we know how to make you amazing, high quality, won’t fall apart after the wash kind of clothes. We love fashion to the core. Down to the thread! Like I said, we love, live and breathe fashion daily. At the Blue Bird Apparel fashion house clothes are being designed, patterns are being drafted and apparel is being sewn every single day. So GIVE LIFE THE BIRD! and treat yourself to a collection that’s truly unique and well made. Re-fab Home Furnishing

Re-fab Home Furnishing
About

Re-Fab Home Furnishing is not an ordinary decor/furniture business. It is a small business started by an experienced restoration and refinisher who started in her parent’s garage nearly 25 years ago. After destroying her Jenny Linn dresser at age 11 with a sharp pencil and the love of Michael Jackson, her mom taught her quickly what a garage in a St. Louis summer felt like while sanding and refinishing. I grew up as most families did, trying to live within our means and looking for ways to save. I learned how to spot quality furniture and the correct steps to restore and refinish. With one of the best teachers, I learned early the care for antiques and upholstery. From building custom beds, tables, hutches, dog crates, gates and you name it to fully restoring pieces hundreds of years old, I can assure you I take pride in all. Every piece I work on goes through a very labor intensive process where NO STEPS ARE SKIPPED.

STL-Style

STL-Style
About

This city is an original, and every corner tells a story.  From Downtown to Dogtown, Patch to Penrose, Saint Louis is both a work in progress and a work of art.  We are particularly enchanted by four-family flats, dudes in leisure suits, cobblestone alleys, graffiti walls, MetroLink trains, toasted ravioli, that muddy river, and the 250 years worth of soul packed into this city’s streets.  Why?  Well, because it’s Saint Louis, that’s why. This town is overflowing with idiosyncrasies, and that unique local flavor should be a source of pride, not embarrassment. So in 2001, we made it our mission to create a new line of apparel that reflects this seasoned old city as we see it.  There are enough t-shirts out there that cater to tourists.  STL-Style is all about striking a chord with the natives.  We rolled out a few early designs with references to Saint Louis neighborhoods and inside jokes and it snowballed from there.  Since beginning this venture, STL-Style has grown from a basement t-shirt shop to a bona fide force in the local scene.  Today, after 10 years in business, STL-Style has polished its act.  With a talented and dedicated team of cohorts, a fully functioning storefront in South St. Louis, more than 50 t-shirts, underwear, hats, onesies, messenger bags, stickers and additional products in the pipeline, we are taking our love for the City of Saint Louis to a whole new level.  And we thank you for helping us get there. For too long, the Red Brick Mama has been overlooked, misjudged and underappreciated.  But today, a renewed spirit is emerging.  Inspired by our passion for the Gateway City, we are doing our part to put the STL back in STyLe!
