If there’s one thing history has taught us, it’s that we Americans just can’t resist young, shaggy-haired British men playing rock ‘n’ roll. Well, there are actually a lot of things history has taught us, but whatever. When Arctic Monkeys dropped “I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor” back in 2005, they blew up the internet and sent music journalists into hysterics. Not even the most curmudgeonly music fan could escape the grips of Monkeymania…
But that was all nearly a decade ago, and these boys have done a whole lot of growing up. Since those early days, Arctic Monkeys have survived the hype, worked with Queens of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme, and headlined Glastonbury. Throw in five straight U.K. number one albums and a few arena tours for good measure and it’s pretty safe to say that they’re doing quite alright. But for a band that gets better with every new release, “alright” doesn’t quite cut it.
They really topped themselves with their most recent album, last year’s universally-acclaimed AM. The record is a sexy slice of leather-clad, after hours rock that will make you forget anything you thought you knew about those fluorescent adolescents and their fake tales of San Francisco. Pitchfork praised the band for “living out their classic-rock dreams” and compared the transformation to when U2 got cool with Achtung Baby in the early 90s.
R U ready for Arctic Monkeys to headline LouFest? Listen to AM on Spotify and start practicing your falsetto now so you’ll be able to nail the vocals on “Do I Wanna Know?” and “One For The Road” by September!
